Ramiro’s father spent most of his life producing coffee, hence Ramiro has been related to coffee from a very young age. He remembers, in those times, their farm had very little infrastructure, making it hard to carry out the whole process of coffee. In most cases, they sold the coffee in cherry form to the commercial market and sometimes even dried the cherries to sell natural processed coffees at a commercial price. After a few years away from the coffee industry, spent producing a diverse range of fruits, Ramiro decided to finally come back and continue with his father’s legacy and cultivate coffee on his farm.

In 2017, when Ramiro was just getting used to coffee again and the changes in the industry, he delivered a few lots to the Caravela warehouse in Quito. However, the coffee didn’t perform as well as he had hoped. There were drying issues and moisture problems. Unfortunately, that year, we had to reject some of his lots, but we did see huge potential in Ramiro’s coffee, so for a whole year, our PECA team visited Finca Ingapamba to educate, offer recommendations, and follow up. At that time Ramiro didn’t have drying infrastructure, he used to just dry his coffee at his neighbor’s farm and that was affecting his quality. Over that year, we worked hand-in-hand to build raised beds where he could dry his coffee. We also offered technical advice on how to improve his processes. After a year of education and improvements, in 2018, we were fortunate to cup amazing coffees from Finca Ingapamba. The volumes delivered and income received increased significantly, compared to 2017. After a very harsh new beginning producing coffee, times of uncertainty, high costs, and low incomes, Ramiro and Victoria have now fallen in love with coffee and are more motivated than ever to continue improving.
